A Sinister Power Behind World Politics

"...the world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes."
- Sidonia, a character from the novel Coningsby by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, 1844

Why do things happen the way they do in politics? We often witness the strangest things. Laws are passed that are no good for the citizens. Judges hand down ridiculous rulings. Presidents issue bizarre executive orders. Recently we are witnessing politicians that are acting with total disregard to their constituents. Why? If it's not clear by now, let me plainly say that I believe there is a power working behind the scenes to influence political decisions. This power is supernatural, and it does not have our best interests in mind. In fact its ultimate aim is "to steal, and to kill, and to destroy" (John 10:10). We know from the Bible that there will eventually be one who will sit in the temple of God and demand to be worshipped as God (2 Thess. 2:4). He will make war with the saints and prevail against them (Dan. 7:21). His kingdom will be exceedingly dreadful and violent (Dan. 7:19).

So is there any evidence of such a supernatural influence? I want to reveal more evidence in future posts, but for now I will once again show what influential and powerful people have said themselves.

"The governments of the present day have to deal not merely with other governments, with emperors, kings and ministers, but also with secret societies which have everywhere their unscrupulous agents, and can at the last moment upset all the governments’ plans." - British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, Sep. 10, 1876

"It is not emperors or kings, nor princes, that direct the course of affairs in the East. There is something else over them and behind them; and that thing is more powerful than them." - Henry Edward Manning, Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, Oct. 1, 1877

"It bends governments to its will sometimes by promises, sometimes by threats. It has found its way into every class of Society, and forms an invisible and irresponsible power, an independent government, as it were, within the body corporate of the lawful state." - Pope Leo XIII, 1902

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men’s views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." - President Woodrow Wilson, 1913

"...the real menace of our Republic is this invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy length over city, state and nation. Like the octopus of real life, it operates under cover of a self-created screen ... At the head of this octopus are the Rockefeller Standard Oil interests and a small group of powerful banking houses generally referred to as 'the international bankers.' The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States Government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both political parties." - John F. Hylan, mayor of New York City (1918-25), March 26, 1922

"The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government ever since the days of Andrew Jackson." - letter dated November 21, 1933, from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Colonel Edward House

"Fifty men have run America and that’s a high figure." - Joseph Kennedy, patriarch of the Kennedy family, New York Times, July 26, 1936
"The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes." - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, 1952

"There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent, in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act. In fact, this network, which we may identify as the Round Table Groups, has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, or any other groups, and frequently does so. I know of the operations of this network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960’s, to examine its papers and secret records. I have no aversion to it or to most of its aims and have, for much of my life, been close to it and to many of its instruments ... my chief difference of opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history is significant enough to be known ... because the American branch of this organization (sometimes called the ‘Eastern Establishment’) has played a very significant role in the history of the United States in the last generation." - Dr. Carroll Quigley, a professor of history at the Foreign Service School of Georgetown University, in his book Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time, 1966 [This is the same Carroll Quigley to whom Bill Clinton referred in his acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention in 1992.]

"The government of the Western nations, whether monarchical or republican, had passed into the invisible hands of a plutocracy, international in power and grasp. It was, I venture to suggest, this semi-occult power which … pushed the masses of the American people into the cauldron of World War I." - British military historian Major General John Frederick Charles Fuller, 1941

These quotes do not necessarily show the character of the supernatural power which is behind the "kings of the earth," but it does demonstrate that there is in fact something which controls the affairs of men. I don't want the reader to misunderstand me though. I do believe that God is sovereign. The book of Job shows that nothing happens to the righteous without God's permission. Romans 8:28 is still in effect. My purpose here is to show that Satan is building the kingdom of Antichrist by stealth, and he is using world leaders to do so. Most of them probably have no idea that they are being used for this purpose. Those at the top level of this conspiracy, however, know exactly who their master is.

A New World Order - part 2

The fact that President Bush used the term "new world order" demonstrates that this idea is not an invention of paranoids. But so what? One person saying something doesn't demonstrate that there is a plan underway. And it certainly doesn't prove the plan is evil. If it were just a few people speaking about the new world order, I wouldn't be wasting my time doing this. The fact is, however, that this idea is on the minds of many prominent politicians, businessmen, educators, and religious leaders. I am not alone in my opinion that there is overwhelming evidence for a worldwide conspiracy that has its origins hundreds and even thousands of years ago.

[If the idea of conspiracy seems too far-fetched, remember that the Bible teaches us that the "[t]he kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us (Psalm 2:2-3), and they will gather together to make war on Jesus Christ (Rev. 19:19). We also see that the merchants who are the "great men of the earth" (i.e. the extremely wealthy "noble" class of businessmen and bankers) will deceive all the nations with their sorceries (pharmakeia, use of drugs to expose a person to the influence of or possession by demonic spirits; Rev. 18:23). So it is obvious the Bible teaches about a conspiracy against God and a campaign of deceit.]

There are differing views of just what this conspiracy involves, and it is veiled in misinformation and even disinformation. So I'd like to let the proponents of this idea (as well as some opponents) speak for themselves. The following are just some of the quotations that pertain to the new world order. Notice who is saying these things.

“The developing coherence of Asian regional thinking is reflected in a disposition to consider problems and loyalties in regional terms, and to evolve regional approaches to development needs and to the evolution of a new world order.” - Richard Nixon writing in the Council on Foreign Relation's (CFR) journal, Foreign Affairs, Oct. 1967

Nixon also expressed “the hope that each of us has to build a new world order” to Chinese Premier Chou En-lai in 1972.

The Associated Press reported that on July 26, 1968, Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York said that “as President, he would work toward international creation of a New World Order.”

"When in the course of history the threat of extinction confronts mankind, it is necessary for the people of the United States to declare their interdependence with the people of all nations and to embrace those principles and build those institutions which will enable mankind to survive and civilization to flourish. Two centuries ago our forefathers brought forth a new nation; now we must join with others to bring forth a new world order...Narrow notions of national sovereignty must not be permitted to curtail that obligation...We summon all Mankind to unity to meet the great challenge." - "A Declaration of Interdependence," written by the historian Henry Steele Commager, signed by 32 Senators and 92 Representatives in Congress in 1975

Congresswoman Marjorie Holt refused to sign the Declaration of Interdependence. She claimed that “It calls for the surrender of our national sovereignty to international organizations. It declares that our economy should be regulated by international authorities. It proposes that we enter a ‘new world order’ that would redistribute the wealth created by the American people.”

“We must replace balance of power politics with world order politics.” - Jimmy Carter during the 1976 Presidential campaign

“I want to assure you that the relations of the United States with the other countries and peoples of the world will be guided during my own Administration by our desire to shape a world order that is more responsive to human aspirations. The United States will meet its obligation to help create a stable, just, and peaceful world order.” - Jimmy Carter, Feb. 14, 1977

“Further global progress is now possible only through a quest for universal consensus in the movement towards a new world order.” - Mikhail Gorbachev in a speech at the UN, Dec., 1988

“We believe we are creating the beginning of a New World Order coming out of the collapse of the U.S.-Soviet antagonisms.” - Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft, a CFR member and former aide to Henry Kissinger, who was the National Security Advisor to Bush, in CNN interview, August 25, 1990

"A colossal event is upon us, the birth of a New World Order.” - Snowcroft on the eve of the Gulf War

“How I Learned to Love the New World Order” - article in The Wall Street Journal written by then Senator Joe Biden (now Vice President), April, 1992

“NAFTA is a major stepping stone to the New World Order.” - Henry Kissinger campaigning for the passage of NAFTA

He also said, “What Congress will have before it is not a conventional trade agreement but the architecture of a new international system … a first step toward a New World Order.” - July 18, 1993, Los Angeles Times

“We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” - David Rockefeller

“We are not going to achieve a New World Order without paying for it in blood as well as in words and money.” - Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Foreign Affairs, July/August 1995

“The New World Order is a world that has supernational authority to regulate the world commerce and industry; an international organization that would control the production and consumption of oil; an international currency that would replace the dollar; a World Development Fund that would make funds available to free and Communist nations alike; and an international police force to enforce the edicts of the New World Order.” - Former West German Chancellor Willy Brandt

More recently former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown mentioned a new world order many times, both while speaking about economic issues and environmental ones.

President Barack Obama was interviewed by David Letterman before his election on September 10, 2008. He said, "We’ve got to win over hearts and minds. We’ve got to invest in countries that have no educational infrastructure, have no means for young people to get ahead. We’ve got to give them a stake in the kind of World Order that I think all of us would like to see."
Time magazine even ran an article entitled "Obama's New World Order" on Dec. 4, 2008.

I know reading quotes is sometimes tedious, but I hope this collection has the same impact it had on me. What stands out to me is that the new world order is promoted by both Democrats and Republicans. And notice the strange bedfellows: communist China; Soviet Mikhail Gorbachev. We have to ask the question, why did Nixon want to work with the communist Chinese "to build a new world order?" And what do they have to offer? Are Bush, Carter, Nixon, Rockefeller, Gorbachev, Brown, and Obama talking about the same new world order? And this still doesn't tell us much about what it really is.

In my next post I'll include quotes of a more sinister nature. They will give us a hint of something dark working behind the scenes of the governments of the world. For now let me give my opinion that the proponents of the new world order, whether knowingly or unknowingly, are laboring toward a world socialist oligarchy which will eventually give rise in one way or another to the kingdom of antichrist.

A New World Order - part 1

When most people hear the phrase, "New World Order," I would venture to guess they immediately think of crazy conspiracy theories that have no factual basis dressed up with wild accusations which come from the fertile imaginations of hippies, crackpots, and the just plain insane. But former President George H. W. Bush brought the reality of this concept into public view when he mentioned it in a speech to a joint session of Congress on September 11, 1990. He said,
“A new partnership of nations has begun. We stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment. The crisis in the Persian Gulf, as grave as it is, offers a rare opportunity to move toward an historic period of cooperation. Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective -- a New World Order -- can emerge: a new era -- freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace. An era in which the nations of the world, East and West, North and South, can prosper and live in harmony. A hundred generations have searched for this elusive path to peace, while a thousand wars raged across the span of human endeavor. Today that new world is struggling to be born, a world quite different from the one we've known..."1
He mentioned it again at the UN on October 1 and at other times. In his state of the union address on January 29, 1991, he said,
"What is at stake is more than one small country; it is a big idea: a new world order, where diverse nations are drawn together in common cause to achieve the universal aspirations of mankind -- peace and security, freedom, and the rule of law...We will succeed in the Gulf. And when we do, the world community will have sent an enduring warning to any dictator or despot, present or future, who contemplates outlaw aggression. The world can, therefore, seize this opportunity to fulfill the long-held promise of a new world order, where brutality will go unrewarded and aggression will meet collective resistance."2
He also said that this New World Order was a "long dreamed-of vision we’ve all worked toward for so long."3 But doesn't this all sound good? "Pursuit of justice"; "quest for peace"; "prosper and live in harmony." These all sound nice, don't they? Who is against peace? But we must remember that Jesus Christ said, "Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division" (Luke 12:51). This is because the world is at odds with the message of the cross. Those who reject God's plan of redemption naturally oppose those who accept it just as Cain killed Abel, and Esau sought to kill Jacob. Of course there will be complete and total peace one day when He returns and overthrows the kingdoms of this world and takes His place on David's throne. But for the time being, He offers a special peace, "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), the fact that while we were enemies of God, "we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son" (Rom. 5:10) and "[t]herefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Rom. 5:1). And this peace with God compels believers to "[f]ollow peace with all men" (Heb. 12:14) and "[i]f it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men" (Rom. 12:18).

The problem with what Pres. Bush said is that it centers around a peaceful world absent of any mention of God's idea of peace. It offers the promise of a better world on our own terms instead of on God's terms. And his idea of "peace and security" brings to mind Paul's warning about the Day of the Lord:
1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. (3) For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But am I being too hard on him? Doesn't he mean well? And just what is really meant by "new world order?" Later we'll take a look at others who have used this phrase or described the idea. For now here is one last example from Pres. Bush.
"We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves and for future generations a new world order -- a world where the rule of law, not the law of the jungle, governs the conduct of nations. When we are successful, and we will be, we have a real chance at this New World Order, an order in which a credible United Nations can use its peacekeeping role to fulfill the promise and vision of the United Nations’ founders.”4
Now ask yourself if the pursuit of this new world order based on the "vision of the United Nations' founders" is really in our best interest. What was their vision? And was it original to the UN founders, or does it have a much earlier origin?

A City and a Tower

At this time I want to focus on the subjects of global government and global religion. My basic view about what is happening today in the realms of politics and religion is that Babel is being reconstructed. The world is being told that we must all unify in a new spirituality and embrace a new world order. (If the term, "new world order," sounds too conspiratorial, please hold on for a few more posts. There is plenty of evidence that this system has been developing for quite some time, and this exact term is now being used openly by world leaders.) Consider these prophetic facts from the Bible:
1. There will be an attempt by Satan to rule the entire world through the person of the "son of perdition" or Antichrist.
2. He will institute an economic system in which "no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."
3. People will worship him and the dragon (Satan) who gives him power, and he will oppose and exalt himself "above all that is called God, or that is worshiped."
4. The "kings of the earth" will unite and take their stand against the Lord and against His Messiah.
5. They will gather together at Armageddon to make war against Jesus Christ.

These statements are profoundly fantastic and difficult to fully grasp. I realize that there is a growing segment of Christianity that believes most or all of this has already taken place. Preterists, as they are called, would claim that I am wasting my time by looking for these events to take place in the future. I have studied this viewpoint in some detail and have considered it, but I must reject it for many reasons. I don't have time now, but if the Lord allows, perhaps I will come back to this subject and offer my reasons. For now I will present my views with the understanding that I see the advent of Antichrist, his political and economic systems, his worship by people worldwide, and his eventual destruction by the visible returning Messiah, etc. as events that have yet to take place.

The First Attempt at World Government

The Bible has been called a tale of two cities: Jerusalem and Babylon. This is a theme that is found throughout Scripture. Jerusalem is the regal city of Israel, the city where the kings were enthroned. It is the site of the temple which Solomon built as a "house for the name of the LORD God of Israel" (1 Kings 8:20). It is the city outside of whose gate our Lord was crucified (Heb. 13:12). And it is the location from which Christ will one day be seated on David's throne (Isaiah 9:6-7) and reign over the earth (Isaiah 24:23). Babylon, in contrast, is the oppressive city (Isaiah 14). It was the city of captivity for the kingdom of Judah, an instrument of God's judgment. It was full of idolatry and magic arts and the worship of the heavenly host. (And let's not forget that there were times when Jerusalem looked more like Babylon than a city which housed "the name of the LORD God of Israel.") There are almost 300 references to it in the Bible, and it has a very prominent role in the book of Revelation. It is obviously very significant for many reasons, not the least of which is that it was at the center of the first organized rebellion against God and attempt at a united nations. Babylon is the site of the tower of Babel, so let's examine its account in the Bible.
Genesis 11:1-4 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. (2) And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. (3) And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. (4) And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
We always talk about the tower of Babel, but we often miss the fact that there was both a city and a tower. This is the first attempt at a combined global government and religion. Note that the people spoke one language and were also "of one speech." Does this mean that they were unified by a common idea? I don't know, but it is certainly clear from the next several verses that the people were unified and that this act greatly displeased God.
Genesis 11:5-9 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. (6) And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. (7) Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. (8) So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. (9) Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
This account describes a unified rebellion against Yahweh. The founder of the city Babel was Nimrod (Gen. 10:8-10). His legacy includes many colorful myths which were incorporated in the Babylonian mysteries that have been passed down to the present day among various secret societies and religious orders. Nimrod seems to be a prototype for the Antichrist in that he was the first recorded world dictator who tried to unify the people against God. The Talmud says he was called Nimrod "because in those days the people were beginning to rebel again against the Lord's command, and Nimrod signifies rebellion." It goes on to say, "When Nimrod had thus established his power he decided to build a city, a walled town, which should be the capital of his country. And he selected a certain plain and built a large city thereon, and called it Shinar. And Nimrod dwelt in Shinar in safety, and gradually became ruler over all the world; and at that time all the people of the earth were of one language and of one speech." Eventually the people promoted the idea of building the tower and the Talmud elaborates that "while they were building rebellion budded in their hearts, rebellion against God, and they imagined that they could scale the heavens and war with him."1 While this is extrabiblical commentary, it does give us an idea of how the account of Babel was interpreted by the Jews.

The Jewish historian, Flavius Josephus, also comments on the account of the events at Babel. In his work, Antiquities of the Jews, he said God had commanded the people some time after the flood to "send colonies abroad, for the thorough peopling of the earth, that they might not raise seditions among themselves, but might cultivate a great part of the earth, and enjoy its fruits after a plentiful manner."2 He said the people disobeyed God's command because they suspected God was trying to divide them in order to more easily suppress them. He blames Nimrod for this attitude among the people.
"Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God… He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers!"
This is beginning to sound increasingly like Psalm 2 and Rev. 19:19 in which the leaders of the nations conspire against God and gather to make war on Him.

("Constant dependence on his power." That sounds familiar. We like to accuse those on the left of being too dependent on the government with cries of "nanny state," but the "religious right" is guilty of the same thing. While we should be responsible to put godly men in office, we should never put our hope in the government. Our dependence should always rest in our Provider, specifically in His provision of the way of reconciliation between God and man, the Lord Jesus Christ.)

Mystery Babylon

The way I understand it presently is that Nimrod was into some very wicked things when he stirred up the people against God. A religious system was devised that involved very real supernatural powers. This system is now known simply as the Babylonian mysteries. After the confusion of languages, the people separated, and parts of this mystery were dispersed across the earth. This is why there are so many ancient civilizations that seem to rely on very similar and sometimes identical notions in their religious beliefs. (One of these is the worship of the serpent...Genesis 3, maybe?) The more I discover about different religious orders and organizations, the more I can see they come from the same original source. It is only logical that these groups might join together and begin to appear to be the same having discarded their differences. I think we are seeing this process actively taking place right now. I saw a local pastor on the news a few days ago who said we should focus on what we have in common instead of dwelling on our differences. The problem with that for the Christian is that we are commanded not to be "unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" (2 Cor. 6:14). The non-Christian also has a problem. The Bible tells of two paths, one that leads to life and another that leads to destruction. It won't matter how much a person focuses on similarities if everyone is on the broad way that leads to destruction (Matt. 7:13-14). The biggest difference between Christianity and every other religion is that God became a man in order to "taste death for every man" (Heb. 2:9) and "reconcile both [Jews and Gentiles] unto God in one body by the cross" (Eph. 2:16). If we set aside that difference, we no longer have Christianity. We have a system of morality without a way to atone for sin. Essentially we would be saying that "Christ is dead in vain" (Gal. 2:21). Sadly this is exactly what many churches are doing today.

Back to the Babylonian mysteries. It is also reasonable to assume that the keepers of these mysteries would want either to be in positions of power or be able to influence those in power in order to achieve their purposes. I think of  Jannes and Jambres who served Pharaoh (2 Tim. 3:8, Exodus 7:10-12) and Elymas the sorcerer who tried to prevent Sergius Paulus from believing the Gospel (Acts 13:6-12). Also this Babylonian system is probably related to the "mystery of iniquity" that Paul wrote about in 2 Thessalonians. In addition the apostle John foretells a religious system that works in tandem with the antichrist government.
Revelation 17:3-6 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. (4) And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: (5) And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (6) And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
This woman is called "the mother of harlots" which means she has children. The children may appear to be different, but they share a common mother. Perhaps today we are witnessing the children coming together to return to their mother.

Of course we cannot ignore the fact that the woman is riding the beast. The religious structure is in control of the political structure, at least for a time until the beast turns on the woman (Rev. 17:16). The point is that this "Mystery Babylon" will be active among the apocalyptic political system. But this system will not just appear out of nowhere. I believe there is sufficient evidence to suggest that these mysterious demonic powers have been influencing and even controlling world politics for quite some time now.
2 Corinthians 6:17-18 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (18) And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Satanic Church Performing Public Ritual in OKC

I found out last week that a satanic church has rented the Oklahoma City Civic Center for October 21, 2010. Their stated purpose is to perform a "ritual exorcism of God." James Hale, the Lord High Master of the Church of the IV Majesties, said the ritual is intended to "extract the gods of what he called the 'right handed path' or traditional religions, such as Christianity, Judaism and Islam."1 This is a good example of the spirit of enmity against God evident in Psalm 2 and Revelation 19:19. Of course this is just one small part of what will eventually become a large scale united effort to usurp the authority of the Creator.

Hale and other Satanists claim that they do not actually worship the devil. They would say that the only god they worship is themselves. "I am my own god," Hale said. I would venture to guess that this might actually be the belief among lower level Satanists, but those who are higher up in the organization (as is true of other esoteric groups such as Freemasonry) have a different understanding of who they truly worship, namely Lucifer. But whether or not they realize it, they are worshipping the devil. Paul taught that there is a demonic spirit behind every idol, and to worship your self is just the worship of another idol and by extension a demon.
1 Corinthians 10:19-21 What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? (20) But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. (21) Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.
Of course the fact that they are going to partake in this ritual reveals their belief in a supernatural realm. In fact their website is promoting a "Perversion and Debauchery Weekend" to be held on Oct. 9-11 in order to benefit from this dark spiritual power. They state, "This weekend is necessary for the Infernal Council to prepare for the upcoming spiritual battle against God, Allah, and all other gods of the right-hand path. We shall indulge in sexual perversions and destruction rituals to accumulate Satan's Power."2

We Christians must keep in mind that our struggle is not with flesh and blood; it is "against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Eph. 6:12). And we do not need to fear because "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). Too often our tendency is to attack a group such as this. Instead we need to equip ourselves with the full armor of God (Eph. 6:10-18) and overcome the adversary (Satan) with the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimonies (Rev. 12:11).

We also need to realize that in order for us to have any hope of turning our nation back to the Lord, we must examine ourselves first. Too often I have heard leaders speak of the judgment of God in reference to natural disasters and violent attacks such as the tragedy of September 11. They love to lay the blame at the feet of people like these Satanists or the homosexuals or others. And it is true that those who reject Jesus Christ will face the Great White Throne Judgment. But could it be that God is using these events to wake the Church up. Peter said, "the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" (1 Pet. 4:17) While I was checking into this ritual to be performed by the satanic church, I discovered another event at the convention center that begins tomorrow. It is the 2010 Transference of Wealth Conference which is promoted by the the Elijah List.3 This website promotes dozens of self-proclaimed apostles and prophets with a postmillennial worldview and a tendency toward the concept of a militant church. About the conference they state, "The Transference of Wealth Conference 2010 is a strategic conference geared towards all members of the Body of Christ who are seeking to understand and become part of what God is doing in this season as He is causing Kingdom wealth to be released and transferred to the Church! This will be a weekend that will prepare people for the release of Kingdom wealth that God is going to transfer to us; empowering them to stand and war against whatever structures stand to oppose the transfer!"4 Discernment Ministries' blog, Herescope, notes, "The latest postings this past year on The Elijah List, chief organ of the NAR [New Apostolic Reformation], reveal that the call for Dominionism (power) is now consistently being linked to wealth (prosperity), obvious incentives for those who are deluded by these lusts of the flesh. But the military rhetoric has now also been added to the mix, teaching that one must not only claim their inheritance ("name-it-and-claim-it"), but also war for their supposed inheritance!"5 It seems very symbolic that a blatant, ritualistic act of rebellion by a group of satanists follows on the heels of an event sponsored by an apostate word of faith/dominionist group who claim Christianity.

We in the Body of Christ need to recognize the threats both from outside and from within the Church. We do need to expose (Greek elegcho) the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph. 5:11), but we also need to recognize our need for correction among ourselves. Paul told Titus that an overseer must hold "fast the faithful word...that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince (elegcho) the gainsayers" (Titus 1:9). Speaking of the "unruly and vain talkers and deceivers," he said that their "mouths must be stopped," and he told Titus to "rebuke (elegcho) them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith" (Titus 1:10-13). Let us examine ourselves and search the Scriptures to be sure that we understand the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, "that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures" (1 Cor. 15:3-4). And let us come together in the unity of this faith and seek the Lord together and be found doing His will.
2 Chronicles 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Ecclesiastical Taboo

Okay, so what are some of these things that the Church is unwilling to engage? Sadly enough, the primary thing is sound biblical doctrine. So many people who claim to be Christians are uninterested in what the Bible has to say.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; (4) And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
And this problem leads to all others. Since the greater part of the Church is looking for the next fad or seeking signs and wonders instead of seeking the true and living God, it fails to recognize the other issues we are facing. Here is a brief list of just some of the things with which I have recently become concerned.
  • Global government (the new world order, the kingdom of Antichrist)
  • Global religion (the woman who rides the beast, the children returning to their "mother of harlots")
  • The occult (the hidden knowledge passed down through the millennia which glorifies Lucifer, the interaction between men and demonic beings/fallen angels)
  • A proper understanding of our government's role as dictated by the U.S. Constitution and how we, as American citizens, should conduct ourselves in light of the revelation of God's Word (That's a long description. There is a lot that could be said here. A few examples: the Federal Reserve system, U.S. military incursions, the Patriot act, torture, etc.)
  • Spiritual matters (subversive movements inside the Church, the New Age movement, secret societies, cults, etc.)
  • The truth about our history (Not just an understanding of the Christian foundation of our nation going back to William Bradford and Plymouth and the question of whether the revolutionary founders were in fact true Christians, but also the idea that there has been a subversive element from the beginning which has been attempting to use this country to move Satan's agenda forward.)
  • Strange phenomena (Marion apparitions, UFO sightings -- I believe both of these have the same demonic source -- the rise in serial killings, crazed "lone gunmen," school shootings, etc.)
  • Scientific issues (Evolution, genetic engineering, cloning, etc.)

I could probably think of more, but you get the idea. Most of these subjects are uncomfortable to think about, much more so to actually talk about. But shouldn't we be able to consider these things among our brothers and sisters without fear of ridicule? We should be humble enough to realize that we don't have a full grasp of reality; "we see through a glass, darkly" (1 Cor. 13:12). Am I saying I have all the answers? Of course not. What I am saying is that the Church needs to address these and other subjects, and the answers should be derived from the revelation of God's Word in the Bible. After all, we have been given a "great commission" to "preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15), and many we meet will be concerned with some of the things listed above. And many of these issues will affect us and our families in the future. Therefor, my purpose for this blog is to get some of these matters out in the open so we can at the very least consider them in the light of the Word of God. We ought to be as the children of Issachar, "which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do" (1 Chron. 12:32).
Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Where does the Church stand?

If you have read my first posts, you now have a fairly good idea from where I'm coming theologically. Now I want to get into some subjects which the Church, for the most part, is not considering. They involve events which many Christians are either ignoring or are totally unaware that they are happening. Many of these subjects are ones of which I myself have only recently become aware. I have had to do some extreme "soul-searching" and, more importantly, Bible-searching when faced with these issues. My consideration of the Scriptures has often compelled me to do a complete 180 degree turn in the way I was accustomed to thinking. And please don't think that I consider myself an expert on any of these subjects. I don't claim to have all the correct answers. I am simply presenting things that have concerned me for others to consider from a biblical perspective. I always encourage others to check anything I (or anyone else for that matter) say against the supreme authority of the Word of God (Acts 17:11). This goes for historical and documentary facts as well. As I've said before, we should be interested in the truth regardless of how uncomfortable it really is. And believe me, many of the things I have come to realize are true are truly uncomfortable, but the truth is what it is. So get ready for a disturbing and provocative ride, but also one that I hope will point people to Jesus Christ as the answer. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," so we shouldn't be afraid of the truth. Instead we should embrace it and consider what our course of action should be in light of it. We must always remember that the ultimate direction in our lives should be toward eternity, and we should therefor glorify God and the Lord Jesus Christ in everything we do.
2 Corinthians 4:5-6 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. (6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Introduction Overview

This post is intended as a brief overview of the material covered in the first 9 posts.

  • There will come a time when a great majority of the population of planet Earth will take up arms and attempt to wage war on the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and against His Anointed, the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
  • Man is naturally wicked, and apart from God's intervention, he will remain in that condition.
  • Fallen angels were placed in charge of the Gentile nations of the world and are most likely still in operation. Only by becoming born-again and continuing in the word of God can one break free from their influence.
  • There will come a time (before mankind's great rebellion and attack against God) when all who refuse to accept the truth will be sent a strong delusion so that they will believe the lie.
  • Leading up to the massive global rebellion against God, demonic spirits will go forth to the leaders of the world to gather them together against God.
  • Christians need to become more diligent in these last days to be aware of Satan's devices and to watch for false christs and false prophets and to expose the unfruitful works of darkness.

Much more could be said. Suffice it to say that my primary contention is that we are currently witnessing the construction of a global government and a global religious system which will culminate in a war against the only true God. The basis of this conflict is spiritual in nature and will involve spiritual beings on both sides. If you need a more in-depth explanation of the preposterous thesis I have just stated, please go back to the first post. For more evidence of this view, please go on to the next post or explore the categories listed at the side of the page.

Doctrines of Devils

I want to illustrate just how careful believers need to be, especially in the last days. Too often we get comfortable in our Christianity, or maybe complacent is a better word. We would do well to listen to the clear warnings given in Scripture to believers.

Concerning His second coming, Jesus asked, "when the Son of man cometh, shall he find [the] faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8). It doesn't sound like He was expecting to find a large, healthy Church when He returns. Then again, there has always been a small remnant of true believers mixed among a larger group of outwardly professing religious people who have "a form of godliness, but [deny] the power thereof" (2 Tim. 3:1-5). Remember Christ said the narrow road was the one that leads to life; the broad road leads to destruction (Matt. 7:13-14).

So why did Jesus ask whether He would find the faith when He returned? Perhaps it has something to do with what Paul was dealing with in Galatia. Keep in mind this was written to believers.
Galatians 1:6-8; 5:4; 5:9  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel [another of a different kind]: (7) Which is not another [of the same kind]; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. (8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed...
(5:4) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace...
[The verb ‘justified’ in 5:4 is in the present tense which denotes a continuous action. These believers were continuously trying to be justified by their own works instead of by faith in Christ’s finished work on our behalf.]
(5:9) A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
[Leaven is indicative of sin. He is saying attempting to live by the law rather than operating in faith in Christ and His finished work on the cross is a sin that will corrupt the believer and lead him into further sin. Study the entire book. See also Colossians and Romans ch. 5-8.]
This was not the only time Paul spoke of a counterfeit message. Here is what he wrote to the church at Corinth.
2 Corinthians 11:2-4 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (4) For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
So it looks like the early church was struggling against a counterfeit message, but haven't we worked out all the kinks by now? Well the short answer is no. Let's not forget we still have an adversary, "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan" who deceives the whole world (Rev. 12:9). He is continually trying to lead believers astray. Peter tells us to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" and that we are to firmly resist him in the faith (1 Peter 5:8-9).

I already expressed my view that believers can in fact be deceived if they are not careful. In my opinion, there are so many examples and warnings in the Scriptures that support this view that I cannot come to any other conclusion. Let's quickly look at a few more examples.

Paul told Timothy "that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1 Tim. 4:1). The way I see it, it is impossible to leave a place to which you've never been. The Greek word aphistemi, translated as depart in the previous verse, is also used by Paul when he told Timothy, "let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart [aphistemi] from iniquity" (2 Tim. 2:19) and by the author of Hebrews when he said, "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing [aphistemi] from the living God" (Heb. 3:12). And note in the latter verse, the author is addressing "brethren," or fellow believers. This verse also gives us a clue to what causes some to depart from the faith. They have "an evil heart of unbelief." Much could be said about the "seducing spirits and doctrines of devils." Perhaps I'll come to that in another post.

At another time, while warning the elders in Ephesus that "grievous wolves" would come in among them "not sparing the flock," Paul said, "Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them" (Acts 20:29-30). No doubt this still happens today. Jude echoes the warning about "grievous wolves" coming in.
Jude 4  For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
As does Peter.
2 Peter 2:1-3  But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
But we must not lose sight of who the real enemy is. Keeping with the main theme of this blog, I turn to 2 Cor. 11 which describes the power behind false teachers, false prophets, etc.
2 Cor. 11:13-15  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
This post was not meant to be a downer. On the contrary, I hope it will create a sense of caution in the reader as well as energize you to "search the scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11). We must never allow ourselves to become so complacent that we lose sight of the tasks the Lord has given us.
1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

Satanic Power and Signs and Lying Wonders

In the first century, when the Church was born, Satan tried to destroy it by persecution. However, this actually helped to spread the Gospel because it relocated believers to other areas. Satan’s next strategy was to infiltrate the Church. While the Enemy still uses persecution, infiltration seems to be his most productive technique because it is not as conspicuous.

Today we are met with what I believe is unprecedented deception and infiltration. But we are not left without help. The Lord has “given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). He gave us very clear warnings and examples of what we are to expect. Jesus said, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” (Matt. 10:16). We are commanded to be informed and aware of what the enemy is doing so we are not inadvertently swept away by his deceitfulness. I think we often overlook these admonitions because they are very uncomfortable to us, especially here in the U. S. where we have been relatively free from the persecution seen in other parts of the world. But things are changing, and we must be prepared. Let’s look at some of the warnings found in the Bible.

When Jesus’ disciples asked Him about the sign of His coming and of the end of the age, He said, "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many" (Matt. 24:4-5). He also said, “there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect” (Matt. 24:24). So Christ’s Second Coming will be marked by spiritual deception and even Satanic signs and wonders. Paul also spoke of these satanic miracles when he warned about the “strong delusion” that God will send on unbelievers at the revelation of the son of perdition.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-12 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. (8) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe [the] lie: (12) That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
So it should be obvious that anyone in the latter days who refuses to accept the truth of the Gospel will be overwhelmed with spiritual deception and destruction. But what about Christians. I’m talking about truly regenerate, born-again Christians. Can they be deceived? Well, with many issues in the Bible, I think the answer is partly yes and partly no. If a person is walking with God through proper faith in Christ crucified, growing in His grace, and abiding in His Word, that person will be equipped with the necessary discernment to avoid spiritual shipwreck. God rewards those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6); they will have the witness of the Holy Spirit to warn them about spiritual dangers. On the other hand, a person can be born-again but fail to continually live by faith; they may be trying to be sanctified by their own works. Inevitably, they will be seduced by a false teaching. If this happens, the person, although saved, will nevertheless be deceived. We’ll look at examples of this in the next post.

Wicked Imaginations

Many of the things I want to present in this blog will be met with disbelief, doubt, and scoffing. And I understand why. We have such a sanitized version of reality presented to us on a daily basis that when we hear something that doesn't click with our worldview we involuntarily react with dismissal.

But I want people (especially my Christian brothers and sisters) to consider that man is not basically good as we are so frequently told. The biblical worldview should include the belief that man is naturally sinful, that he is born into sin that has been inherited from Adam. And apart from the grace of God and the restraint of the Holy Spirit, man can devise the most wicked acts imaginable. Let's just take that word for instance: 'imagination.' Recall that God destroyed the world with a global deluge in the days of Noah. I believe that the most important reason for this was to preserve the uncorrupted blood line from Adam to Noah that would eventually lead to Jesus Christ. The Bible does not give an extraordinary amount of detail on this subject, but this much is clear:
Genesis 6:5-6 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (6) And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
After the flood, when Noah built an altar to the Lord, even while He was promising not to destroy every living thing again, God comments that "the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth" (Gen. 8:21). So we have to take this seriously. People are naturally evil. Every Christian should understand this. That's why we need to be saved. We need God to save us from the penalty of original sin and take away the power of the sin nature. We need Him to make us "partakers of the divine nature" so we can escape "the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2 Pet. 1:4).

Some things are difficult to believe because of the level of evil that they demonstrate. I think this is because we don't witness unrestrained evil everyday. But we need to be prepared for it if we do. We need to know what men are capable of, especially those who are Satanically empowered as the Bible describes. We have already seen how God views our hearts, but here is another example.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (10) I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
The apostle Paul said basically the same thing when he said, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing" (Rom. 7:18). This is why the flesh has to be crucified.
Galatians 2:20-21 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (21) I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

The Overcomers

It is evident that the spirit world does affect what is happening in the natural world, whether it is politics, education, or religion, including the Church. Yes, we must be aware of the fact that Christians are not immune from the enemy's spiritual attacks. There are countless warnings to Christians about spiritual deception. Here is just one example:
Matthew 24:4-5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. (5) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
But also keep in mind that Christ said, "...I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Mat. 16:18). And if we are in Christ, we should not fear Satan. John tells us, "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). But just before this, he warns us about evil spirits:
1 John 4:1-4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: (3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. (4) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
The 2nd and 3rd chapters of the book of Revelation have many promises to those who overcome. The word 'overcome' is the Greek word nikao. It means 'to subdue' and is also translated as 'to conquer,' 'to prevail,' and 'to get the victory.' The first time this word is used in the New Testament is in Luke 11:22 when Jesus is describing casting demons out of a person. The second time is in John 16:33 when He said, "In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." This is a very important point. There are those who would have us believe that the power is within us to overcome the Devil. But these verses demonstrate that overcoming starts with Christ. This should be obvious. What can poor, pitiful humans do against such a powerful fallen angel?

So how are we involved in overcoming the enemy? First, we must be born again. When Jesus was describing being born again to Nicodemus, he told him, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." And John tells us, "whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 John 5:4-5). Our victory is in our faith, but it must be faith in the correct object, i.e. "Christ crucified" (1 Cor. 1:23). Later John describes how believers will overcome Satan and all his angels when they are cast down to earth:
Revelation 12:9-11 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (10) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (11) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
We have to get this. As Christians we are to live our lives by faith in "the blood of the Lamb." Four times in the Scriptures we are told "the just shall live by faith" (Hab. 2:4, Rom. 1:17, Gal. 3:11, Heb. 10:38). Notice it does not say "the sinner shall be saved by faith" although that is also true. No, it specifically makes the point that the Christian, i.e. the one who is already justified ("the just"), must also live by faith, and it has to be faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice for sin on the cross, just as when we are first saved. Colossians 2 tells us, "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith...And ye are complete in him...And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." So we are to walk in Christ just as we received Him: by grace through faith in Him and His finished work on the cross. Only when we do this can we overcome "the world, the flesh, and the devil."

Principalities and Powers - part 2

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Now I want to explore the idea of Satanic influence on the nations of the world. We usually think of Satan tempting people to sin, and that is true. We saw in the previous post how "Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David" (1 Chronicles 21:1). But there has been a deeper working of demonic powers among the nations of the world.

There is evidence in the Bible of spiritual forces working behind the leaders of the nations. Pastor Bob DeWaay says that "the apportionment for the nations were the host of heaven." That is, the nations were overseen by angelic beings (probably fallen angels, seeing how after the table of nations in Gen. 10, there appears the Tower of Babel where the first global leader, Nimrod, attempted the first world government and religion which is the basis for all occult religion today). He takes this from Deut. 32:8 which says, "When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel." DeWaay points out that the Septuagint (which is the Greek version of the Old Testament that was translated over 200 years before Christ) says "sons of God" or "angels of God" instead of "children of Israel." (Job 1 and 2 show that the phrase "sons of God" refers to angelic beings; see also Gen. 6:2.) So this could mean that the Lord set the boundaries of the people according to the number of the angels of God1. This seems to be supported by Deuteronomy 4:19:
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
Deut. 32:9 states that "the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance." So while the Gentile nations were under the influence of these angelic principalities and powers, Israel was governed by the Lord. They were warned that if they failed to follow after the Lord, they would be turned over to serve the "host of heaven" which describes spirit beings according to 1 Kings 22:19. And Acts 7:42 says that is exactly what happened: "Then God...gave them up to worship the host of heaven..."

Daniel 10 also tells us of a spiritual power that governs the nations. Daniel had been fasting and praying for three full weeks when he was visited by an angel of God who told him:
Daniel 10:12-13 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. (13) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
Seeing that this angelic messenger needed the help of Michael the archangel in order to deal with this prince of the kingdom of Persia, it is obvious that this is speaking of a fallen angel or similar evil power. Later he tells Daniel, "and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come." Historians and military tacticians have always been amazed with Alexander the Great and how he was able to accomplish what he did with his military with such swiftness. This portion of Daniel gives us an insight into how it was possible: he was aided by a dark spiritual power. This begs the question, is there a "prince of the kingdom" of the United States of America? I will certainly come back to that at another time, if the Lord allows.

Going back to 1 Kings 22 and the host of heaven, we see that evil spirits are also involved in false religious activities.

1 Kings 22:19-23 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. (20) And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. (21) And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him. (22) And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. (23) Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
So we can see that the false prophets are not simply making things up and deceiving the people for their own personal gain (although this does occur at times). Instead they themselves are deceived by lying spirits. This makes even more sense in light of 1 Cor. 10:20 which tells us that when people worship an idol or a false god, they are really serving a demon spirit. We sometimes wonder why people can believe such strange things, but we forget that they are already taken captive by the devil to do his will (2 Tim. 2:26), and then they worship demons through their idols which invites even more demonic delusion upon them. But praise God, the blood of Jesus Christ was shed to break such bondages and deliver people from the snare of the devil!

One last thing. We must begin to understand what Paul calls "the mystery of iniquity" (2 Thess. 2:7). A mystery in the Bible does not refer to something that cannot be solved but to that which is hidden or secret. Albert Barnes says, "The 'mystery of iniquity' seems here to refer to some hidden or concealed depravity - some form of sin which was working secretly and silently, and which had not yet developed itself." Vincent's Word Studies says 'iniquity' is better understood as 'lawlessness.' He goes on to say, "A mystery does not lie in the obscurity of a thing, but in its secrecy. It is not in the thing, but envelops it. Applied to a truth, it signifies a truth once hidden but now revealed or to be revealed; a truth which without special revelation would be unknown...The mystery of lawlessness is the mass of lawlessness yet hidden, but which is to reveal itself in the person and power of Antichrist. The position of the word is emphatic, emphasizing the concealed character of the evil power." Paul said that this "secret power of lawlessness" (NIV) was already at work in his time, and it continues to work in secret because it is being restrained for the time being. We must understand that Satan has been continually working on his kingdom; he has been gradually putting the pieces into place for centuries. And he is still hard at work today.

Consider this. Satan is working in all areas of our civilization to bring about his kingdom which is to be ruled by his servant, the Antichrist. Shouldn't we become aware of how he is laboring to bring this about so we can better resist it? If we participate in something that is being used by the enemy or knowingly fail to resist it, are we accomplices? Let's be aware of Satan's devices so we can expose his unfruitful works of darkness and bring people out of Satan's kingdom of darkness and into God's kingdom.

1. I have recently come across the work of Dr. Michael Heiser. He emphasizes the "Divine Council" view found in the Old Testament which supports the material in this post (only he does a much better job of explaining it). Here is his website: The Divine Council.

Principalities and Powers - part 1

Now that we have learned that there will come a time when people will actually take up arms against the Creator of the universe, let's look at how humanity will get to that point. There are many things taking place today that I believe are impossible to understand without the knowledge of the supernatural and how the spiritual affects the natural. And of course our guide to supernatural things is the Bible.

This passage should be familiar to every Christian:
Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Here is a similar passage:
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God...
It's important to realize that although we are seeing our politicians supporting immoral policies and our society becoming increasingly pagan, the flesh and blood people themselves are not the enemy. They need to be pulled "out of the fire" (Jude 23) through the preaching of the Gospel. Our true enemies are fallen angels and demon spirits.

Most of the time we do not see what is happening supernaturally; we just see the natural results. Take Job for example. One day some messengers came to him and told him that his livestock, his servants, and his sons and daughters had all been destroyed. What Job did not see was that Satan was the cause of these disasters. Later Satan also caused boils to appear on Job's body. Even things that are not directly caused by evil spirits are nevertheless a result of sin. When Adam and Eve sinned, the whole of creation was cursed. It was subjected to "the bondage of corruption" and "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain" (Rom. 8:21-22).

But it is possible to get a glimpse of what's "running in the background," so to speak. We know because there are accounts in the Bible. In 2 Kings chapter 6, we are told that the king of Syria sent a large company of soldiers to Dothan to take Elisha the prophet. We'll pick up the account in verse 15:
2 Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? (16) And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. (17) And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
So this is just one example of supernatural beings that are among us that we normally do not perceive. In this case, they are there to protect Elisha and his servant. But as we noted earlier, there is "spiritual wickedness in high places" that also usually operates without our direct observation. We'll take a closer look at this type in the next post. But for now here's one last example. In 2 Sam. 24, there is an account of king David requiring a census to be taken. This display of pride displeased the Lord, and David realized he had sinned. The Lord then sent a message to David:
2 Samuel 24:11-13 For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, (12) Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. (13) So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
David decided to fall into the hands of the Lord because of His great mercies. We are then told that the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel, and 70,000 men died. At this point 1 Chron. 21 adds a detail not found in 2 Sam.:
1 Chronicles 21:15-16 And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. (16) And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
Obviously there are many dynamics at work here, and one detail can be easily overlooked. In the first verse of 1 Chron. chapter 21 we read:
And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

Enmity Against God

Isaiah 14:12-14  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (13) For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

The Bible has much to say about future events. We (especially Christians) would do well to carefully consider the warnings God has graciously given us ahead of time. So what does the Bible say about the end of the age and this so-called war against God Himself? It has far more to say than what I can fit in this post alone; for now, I want to focus on Psalm 2 and Revelation 19.

Psalm 2 talks about the nations of the earth and their desire to rebel against the Almighty God.
Psalms 2:1-3 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? (2) The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, (3) Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
"Heathen" here is another word for peoples, Gentiles, or foreign nations. The word "rage" can mean "to be tumultuous" or "to conspire or plot." "People" in verse 1 is used in the sense of a community. "Imagine" has the sense of murmuring in anger. The phrase "set themselves" uses the same word as Jeremiah 46:14 which says, "...Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee." The phrase "take counsel" is used in Scripture literally for laying a foundation. Here in Psalm 2, it appears to be used figuratively, perhaps in the sense of digging in their heels and refusing to budge in the course of their rebellion against God. This can be seen throughout the book of Revelation when the people who are dwelling on the earth are continually struck with plague and disaster, yet they still refuse to repent of their wicked deeds.

Now pay attention to who the kings and rulers are against. They are angry with and contending against the Lord and His Anointed. "Anointed" is the Hebrew word Mashiyach or Messiah, i.e. Christ Himself. So the passage seems to communicate the fact that people, led by the kings and rulers of the world, will conspire together against God Himself and against the true Messiah, Jesus Christ. They will take a stand against God and attempt to throw off their perceived shackles. Everyone involved in this Great Uprising seems to be saying with William Henley, "I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul."

Now couple this with Revelation 19:11-13, 19.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (12) His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God... (19) And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
The rider on the white horse in verse 11 is none other than Jesus Christ, God's Anointed. (Notice that verse 13 says his name is "The Word of God" which points back to the title given to Jesus in John's Gospel.) Then verse 19 tells us that a character known as "the beast" together with the kings of the earth (from Psalm 2) and their armies actually gather to make war against Jesus Christ and His army.

The Bible makes it clear that unregenerate people are totally depraved and do not accept "the things of the Spirit of God" (1 Cor. 2:14), but how is it possible that people will actually attempt to wage war against Almighty God? Revelation 16 gives us the answer.
Revelation 16:13-14  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. (14) For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
These are a few of the many passages that speak of man's "enmity against God" (Rom 8:7) and the reality that there is a coming war on God, however futile it may be. I hope to explore the evidence that Satan is in the process of building his kingdom which will be led by the kings of the earth and the beast of Revelation.

I also want to emphasize that each one of us is involved in this cosmic war in one way or another. There is no such thing as a neutral position. We are all born in sin. Before a person becomes a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says we "were in bondage under the elements of the world" (Gal. 4:3); we were caught in "the snare of the devil" and "taken captive by him at his will" (2 Tim. 2:26). In this state we were totally depraved and as long as we continue in our unbelief, the wrath of God abides on us (John 3:36).

But the good news is that God, in His infinite mercy, became a man of flesh and blood so that "through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage" (Heb. 2:14-15). I hope that you have been delivered from your sins and are now a new creation in Christ Jesus. If you are, please realize that you and I are involved in a supernatural battle, whether we like it or not. In the next post, I hope to discuss what the Bible says about the nature of this battle.

If you are not saved from your sins, my prayer is that God will work through the scripture I have included here and draw you to Himself. Realize that He has spoken to all men in these last days by His Son Jesus Christ (Heb. 1:2) and "now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Acts 17:30). We must repent (turn from our sinful life and turn to God and His way of salvation) because "all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). Because God is perfect in all His ways, He is also a perfect judge and cannot overlook the fact that we have broken His law. "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10) The good news is that God loves us so much that He made a way for us to be declared innocent of our sins. "...God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." (Rom. 8:3-4) The work of salvation was finished on the cross when the soul of the Messiah Jesus was made an offering for sin (Isaiah 53:10). All you must do is repent and "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31).
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
